,
They’re dropping like flies.
This morning, the Victorian Liberals second candidate was forced to resign following racist and sexist comments online. I won’t include them here, but in one comment he recommends a ‘pick up’ line that suggests inviting women to smell a rag covered in chloroform. 1
Disgusting.
Lyons’ resignation follows former Liberal candidate Aaron Lane’s resignation on Saturday over his homophobic tweets. 2
And this is the party that could still have control over both houses of the Victorian government come November. It's up to us to change that.
Let’s use this appalling news to show Victoria what politics with integrity can look like.
Just $25 will help us give each neighbourhood doorknocker a T-shirt, a clipboard and 500 leaflets — they’ve been so busy talking to Victorians face to face, at their homes, that they’ve run out of materials.
As you may know by now, I have moved over to Victoria to help out here until the State election on November 29. (I was the campaign manager on Scott Ludlam’s campaign and I'm looking forward to energising Victoria now too!)
You know why? Because whilst the Liberal Party might be riddled with sexism and racism and homophobia, as a part of the Greens I can say with 100% conviction that the Greens consistently stand up for what’s right, act with integrity and take courageous action to make our society a better place.
Will you support our 92 candidates who are campaigning all across the state for a new, and better, type of politics?
I’m really looking forward to working with you over the coming months,
Jess McColl, Campaign Manager

PS - Whilst Liberal Candidate Jack Lyons’ comments were disgusting, they’re unfortunately not surprising — with crude, offensive behaviour taking place at all levels of the Liberal Party. Remember Prime Minister Abbott notoriously winking when on the phone to Gloria — a grandmother struggling to make ends meet by working on a sex hotline to supplement her pension? Politics shouldn’t be this way - please click here to donate and let’s bring integrity back into politics, starting with Victoria.
