Join Dr Amanda Cohn MLC and Riverina Greens for some citizen science to sample microplastics from the Wagga Beach. Advancing our understanding of the scourge that is plastic pollution.
Plastic doesn't just go away. It breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces in the environment. Now we know this is harming our health, too.
Microplastics have been found polluting waterways across NSW. Join the Riverina Greens to test the Wagga beach for microplastics. This citizen science event will support researchers to better understand where plastic pollution is coming from and how it is impacting our environment and our health. This is a hands-on event for all community members, open to all ages and abilities.
This will be followed by community Q&A, led by Dr Amanda Cohn MLC about what we can do to put a stop to plastic pollution.
Capacity for the water sampling activity is limited to 20 people. Bring your hat (or raincoat), sunscreen, and a water bottle.
Capacity for the community Q&A is limited to 35 people.
The sampling of the plastics on the Wagga Beach will not be accessible as the beach is sand.
The Q&A, sorting and lunch is planned to be done at the main BBQ area at Wagga Beach. This area is accessible but the main path is packed sand/gravel so a little bumpy for wheelchairs. There are disabled car parking places at the closest carpark near the basketball courts.
Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult/guardian who must also be registered for the event.
